It seems nowadays that we get so busy that we forget to take care of one of the most important persons in our lives—-ourselves! For me, self-care is so important. When we take care of ourselves I believe we become a better version of ourselves. It allows you to be a better mother, friend, wife, sister, girlfriend.
With the holidays right around the corner, it can be very easy to get stressed out. So what are some ways to practice self-care? Well, for me, I love exercising 5 times a week. But it can also be something as simple as taking 5 minutes to practice some quiet time in the mornings or sitting down with a good book.
I also love treating myself to massages. Studies have shown that there are tons of benefits of massage therapy for self-care. Not only can it reduce stress, but it also helps with depression and anxiety. Whenever I know I’m going to have a busy week ahead or traveling a lot, I like to book myself a massage and get my body ready.
I recently got to try out a new treatment at the Acqualina Spa by ESPA called Sound Care Ritual. It’s a music-intensified treatment using sound care, a French-based music application clinically proven by neuroscience researchers to provide natural calm and aid with sleep disorders, pain management, stress and anxieties.
I absolutely love music, so this for me was the perfect addition to my regular massages. You first start off by picking the music of your choice. They have an array of original music compositions ranging from classical, to new age, Latin and reggae. I ended up picking one called “Yarik.”
After that, you are given headphones and the massage starts. It begins with a foot massage followed by an aromatherapy massage. My mind normally tends to wander when I get massages like “what am I going to have for lunch,” “Did I run out of almond milk?” HA. But with music I found it to be very helpful in clearing my thoughts and only focus on the sounds. At the end of the massage I felt so relaxed and ready to take on the day.
If you live in Miami or will be visiting, I highly recommend it. The Sound Care Ritual lasts for one hour and 20 minutes (you can book it here) After or before your massage you can also enjoy the amenities of the spa, which are gorgeous such as their Outdoor Pool with Roman Waterfall, Crystal Steam Rooms, Himalayan Salt Walls, Refreshing Ice Fountains or their Experiential showers.
Are you good with practicing self-care? What are some of your favorite ways to unwind?
