One thing (or should I say one of the many things) I've learned since my husband was diagnosed with cancer, is how important it is for us to take care of our bodies. I know many people make New Year's Resolutions to loose weight, but it's not so much about loosing weight or looking good, but rather being healthy.
We recently bought a Vitamix and Omega Juicer and I haven't stopped juicing and making smoothies since lol. It's an easy way to get in your veggies and fruits. Green juices can also help detox your body from the many harmful toxins it gets exposed to each and every day. Here are some of my favorites.
**Make sure all of your ingredients are organic.
VF's Cancer Fighting Smoothie
Yield 2 Servings
2 Leaves of Kale
1 Cucumber
1/2 Green Apple
Pinch of Tumeric (optional) Tumeric has tons of anti-cancer fighting properties
Pinch of Ginger (ginger can be very strong, so take it easy on the ginger)
1 Banana
1/4 Cup of mixed Berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries)
1 Cup of Coconut Water or Almond Milk
1. Wash and add ingredients to a high speed blender and blend to desired consistency.
Coconut Fruit Smoothie (one of my favorites)
1 Young Coconut (you can find these at Whole Foods or at your local Asian market)
1 Frozen Banana
1/2 Cup Frozen Organic Mixed Berries (Sometimes I'll swap of mixed berries for Soursop--also called guanabana)
1. Learn how to prepare the coconut here then add all ingredients to a high speed blender and enjoy!
Detox Green Smoothie
3 Cups of Spinach
1 Cup of Frozen Mixed Berries
1 Cup of Frozen Mango or Peach
1 Frozen Banana
1 Tablespoon Spirulina
1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup
1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
2 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
2 Cups Almond Milk
Small Handful of Fresh Parsley
1. Add all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend to desired consistency.
What are some of your favorite green juices or smoothies? I'm always looking to add more to my recipe list.
