TGIF and it's labor day weekend too...wohoo! So for those of you wondering, "Is it ok to wear white after labor day," personally I say of course you can, I mean rules were meant to be broken anyways right? Glamour.com had some great tips for wearing white after labor day--I thought I'd share:
1. Mind your materials. A flowing white cotton dress with very feminine details--eyelet, lace, a scalloped edge--is an absolute essential in August. Ditto a pair of crisp linen pants. But in late September, those pieces just seem out of place. If you want to wear a white dress, opt for one in a seasonless fabric like jersey or silk jacquard; when late fall and winter roll around, go for chunky knits or even wool.
2. Don't go head-to-toe. Again, you want to save your white-out look for the steamiest days of the season (like Diddy's White Party, where Demi and Ashton looked crisp and cool). I think white jeans are a do all year long--wear 'em with a pair of riding boots and a blue oxford button-down when the leaves start changing--and so is the right white pencil skirt. It can look perfect for September if you wear it with a black cowl neck sweater or collared shirt, a pair of black pumps, and some chunky jewelry. When in doubt, don't wear more than one white piece at a time.
3. Make sure the rest of your look is season-appropriate. If you're going to wear white jeans in October, please leave your flip flops at home. Attempting a white dress in late September? Don't do it with a straw handbag and turquoise jewelry. The other items you wear are as important (if not more so) than the white piece you've got on.
